Fort Sumter is located in the middle of the Charleston Harbor. It was an imposing fortification to keep Major Robert Andersons's soldiers safe after North Carolina seceded from he Union.
Fort Sumter still exists today in the middle of the Charleston Harbor, but as a National Monument. It is a tourist attraction for others who want to learn information about the Battle of Fort Sumter or mainly about the fort. The main transportation for tourists to reach the site is by a ferry.
